About
An isolated promontory on the black sand plain of Mýrdalssandur, a former volcanic island now surrounded by ash desert. Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson, brother-in-law of Ingólfr Arnarson, was buried here in 874 – one of Iceland's earliest Viking settlement sites.
