Rochefort - Église romane Saint-Étienne de Waha
Wikipedia (fr) - CC BY-SA

Rochefort is a modest-sized town in the heart of the Famenne, known as much for its caves as for its Trappist beer. The Grotto of Lorette-Rochefort has been carved through limestone for millions of years and draws geologists and the curious alike. The brewery of Saint-Rémy Abbey quietly produces three of the world's most respected Trappist beers, making no spectacle of it.

Spring and autumn offer the best conditions for exploring the region on foot or by bike, when the Ardennes forests change colour without the summer crowds. Two days suffice to see the essentials, especially if you venture towards nearby Han-sur-Lesse. Come by car-public transport remains impractical in this rural sector. Don't expect a local discount buying Rochefort beer on site: it costs the same as anywhere else.
