MAP · OVERVIEW
Limassol strikes a rare balance between an active industrial port and an assured beach town. Its waterfront, the Molos, concentrates local life without trying to imitate the neighbouring Greek resorts. The old town, around the Crusader castle, preserves a historical density that the rest of the island hasn't always managed to keep. The international community that has settled here in recent years gives it an urban energy unusual for Cyprus.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer tolerable heat and beaches still accessible. Two to three days suffice to grasp its rhythm, but a hire car remains essential for exploring the wine villages of Troodos an hour's drive away. Avoid the touristy Potamos Germasogeias neighbourhood in the evening: the atmosphere there is artificial and prices bear no relation to local reality.
