What to see in Riquewihr?

25 places curated by Hozy - landmarks, nature, hidden restaurants and activities.

MAP · OVERVIEW

Riquewihr is a 16th-century Alsatian village that has remained almost entirely intact, tucked between Riesling vineyards and the Vosges hills. Its half-timbered architecture, interior courtyards and its Dolder-a medieval tower dominating the main street-create the impression of a town frozen in time, yet inhabited and very much alive. This is no mere backdrop: winemakers still work here, and the wine you drink comes from parcels visible from the ramparts.

September and October remain the best times to visit, when the grape harvest brings the village to life without the saturation of summer. Two hours suffice to see everything on foot-Riquewihr can be crossed in twenty minutes. Avoid arriving on a weekend in August, when the Rue du Général-de-Gaulle becomes impassable. Come on a weekday, park in the free exterior car park, and enter on foot through the main gate.
