MAP · OVERVIEW
Sainte-Anne, in Guadeloupe, is a commune in southern Grande-Terre that operates at its own rhythm-between the Sunday morning market and largely empty white-sand beaches on weekdays. The town centre preserves modest, authentic Creole architecture, far removed from any tourist staging. Plage de la Caravelle, managed by Club Med but accessible to the public along its edges, remains the commune's defining geographical landmark.
The best time to visit runs from January to April, before the worst heat arrives and outside the hurricane season. Two or three days suffice to explore the surroundings, particularly Pointe des Châteaux about fifteen kilometres away. A rental car is essential; public transport is impractical. Avoid restaurants facing the main beach-quality drops and prices spike the moment the view becomes part of what's being sold.
