Carvoeiro is a former fishing village wedged between golden Algarve cliffs, its centre still organized around a sheltered beach just dozens of metres across. What sets it apart from neighbouring resorts is its human scale: the white alleys remain walkable, and the path to the rock formations at Algar Seco gives you a sense of what the coastline was before concrete.
The best period is May–June or September, when light is clear and prices reasonable. Two to three days are enough to explore the surrounding coves, including Praia do Carvalho, reachable only by a tunnel carved into the rock. Hire a car from Faro; public transport is virtually non-existent. Avoid restaurants right on the main beach: quality drops and prices double for no reason.
