Frigiliana - Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua
Wikipedia (fr) - CC BY-SA

Frigiliana is one of Andalusia's white villages that has managed to remain inhabited rather than become a museum piece. Perched in the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara, twenty minutes from Nerja, it preserves its Moorish quarter, the Barribarto, with its steeply sloping cobbled streets and freshly whitewashed houses. The history between Christians and Moriscos is told through ceramics fixed to the walls—understated and effective.

Spring (April–May) and September offer ideal light and temperatures for walking without suffering. Two hours is enough for the village itself, but allow half a day if you venture up to the ruins of El Lagar castle. Come by car from Nerja; buses are infrequent. Avoid the artisanal market at weekends in summer: prices double and the streets become impassable.
