MAP · OVERVIEW
Mijas occupies a rare position: a white-washed village clinging to a mountainside twenty minutes from the coast, with direct views to the Mediterranean and the Moroccan Rif on clear days. The pueblo has kept its narrow streets and authentic Plaza de la Constitución despite steady tourism, partly because most visitors stay only a few hours.
Spring and autumn offer ideal conditions: moderate warmth, raking light in late afternoon, workable terraces. Allow a half-day from Málaga or Marbella, preferably by car as buses are sparse and inconvenient. The ermita de la Virgen de la Peña deserves a detour, unlike the donkey-taxis lining the village entrance-a dated attraction you can safely ignore.
