MAP · OVERVIEW
Nerja resists the concrete pressure better than its Costa del Sol neighbours. The village maintains a functioning historic centre, inhabited year-round, where the Balcón de Europa remains a meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Its coastline alternates between rocky coves and sandy beaches without one obliterating the other, lending it a rare coherence on this stretch of coast.
The best period falls in May-June or September, when temperatures are bearable and visitor numbers reasonable. Two days suffice to explore the centre and nearby beaches, three if you add the Cueva de Nerja. From Málaga, the direct bus is more practical than driving, as summer parking is genuinely problematic. Avoid restaurants immediately around the Balcón: quality drops proportionally to the view.
