What to see in Dinant ?
22 places curated by Hozy - landmarks, nature, hidden restaurants and activities.
Dinant stands in a rocky corridor between the Meuse and sheer limestone cliffs, a geography that has shaped its character as much as its history. The citadel perched above the Collégiale Notre-Dame is not mere backdrop-it represents a defensive logic that explains why this town was razed several times over. As the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, it carries a discreet but genuine musical identity.
September and October offer low-angle light on the cliffs without the summer crush of pedalo rentals on the Meuse. Two days is more than enough to explore the citadel, centre and surroundings by bike along the RAVeL. Avoid July weekends when coach parties turn the Rue Grande into a pedestrian traffic jam. Once you're here, a car becomes unnecessary.
