MAP · OVERVIEW
Marche-en-Famenne is a human-scaled town that serves as a gateway to the Ardennes without its saturated edges. Its historic centre, articulated around the Grand-Place and the church of Saint-Remacle, preserves sober architectural coherence, typical of Ardennes limestone. The town was long an important Spanish military stronghold, and this history as a strategic crossroads still reads in its urban layout.
Spring and autumn offer the best conditions for exploring the region, before summer crowds overwhelm neighbouring villages. Two days suffice to cover the town and venture into the Famenne-Ardenne nature reserve. A car is essential for reaching nearby trails. Avoid concentrating your stay on the Imatronic festival weekend alone, which doubles visitor numbers and complicates accommodation.
