What to see in Verviers ?
23 places curated by Hozy - landmarks, nature, hidden restaurants and activities.
Verviers is a Walloon city that built its fortune on wool and water, two resources that shaped its industrial architecture and understated character. The neoclassical façades of the town centre, notably around the place du Martyr, still bear traces of textile prosperity that radiated influence until the 19th century. It is an unpretentious working city with an identity of its own that few travellers bother to investigate.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit, when the Vesdre valley reveals its colours without the crowds. Allow a full day, or even a night if you want to explore the surrounding Hautes Fagnes. The train from Liège is direct and convenient. Don't limit your visit to the Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Céramique alone without venturing into the steep lanes of the old centre, which tell the city's real story far better.
